People listed from the primary sources:
Family members
James O'Keane, father
2 unnamed sisters - by virtue of the fact that Annie is listed as the third daughter...more on that later.
Stephen John Glumaz, husband
Stephen John Glumaz, son - he is not listed as Junior
Ellen Glumaz, Daughter
James Joseph Glumaz, son
Anne Winifred Glumaz, daughter
Francis Benavetur Glumaz, son
Using this info, I build this tree for Annie:
Please note that Anne Winifred's birth year is incorrect. It should read 1886. |
Other Identified people
Arthur James (?) Carlin, marriage witness
Sara Carlin, marriage witness
Martha Kane, witness to Stephen John's birth (Annie's son)
Alexander Dillon, witness to James Joseph's baptism
Mary Keane, witness to James Joseph's baptism
We have no documents with a name for Annie's mother. It is possible that Martha O'Kane or Mary Keane could be her mom or at the very least, a close relative.
On PRONI, there is a will for a James Kane of Craigbilly, who died in 1872. His death falls in within the timeline of before Annie's marriage. His wife's name is mentioned as Mary. Ulster Historical Foundation, whom was commissioned to do some research, along with Marina and I feel very strongly that James is Annie's father. The thing is ....Mary could or could not be Annie's mom. It is possible that James remarried and Mary could be Annie's stepmom. I say this because Annie named her first girl Ellen. In old Irish tradition, the first daughter is named after her maternal grandmother, so why not Mary? The thing is the first son didn't follow the Irish naming practices, either. So it is all a guess....
Glumaz- O'keane children Given names vs Traditional Irish Naming Practices (TINP)
1877 - Stephen John, first son, named after father, SJ. TINP: John, after paternal grandpa
1879 - Ellen, ??? No Clue. Could possibly Annie's mother's name. Also, why didn't she name her first daughter after herself, like her husband did the first son? TINP: Mary, if we use the 1872 will as basis for maternal grandmother's name
1883 - James Joseph, after Annie's father, or brother. TINP: James, after maternal grandpa, a match
1885 - Anne Winifred, probably named after her mother. TINP: Giacoma, after paternal grandmother
1889 - Francis Benavetur, family history states that Benavetur was a fashionable Italian name that was all the rage at the time. TINP: Stephen John, after father, but already taken by the firstborn.
The last thing I would like to bring up is the marriage notice in the Liverpool newspaper. It states that Annie is the third daughter of James. I have wondered if that is third daughter of only 'living' daughters at the time of the marriage, or does it include all daughters, whether alive or deceased, that were born to James. Still learning the ins and outs of Irish genealogy and don't know if there are any standard practices in that regard.
