This is an image of the 1862 Griffith Valuation for Crebilly. |
From the second UHF report,
a list of the tenants are given for property #7 in Crebilly. This was done to show how the property went from one Kane family member to another, staying within the family.
Starting in 1862, the first property tax assessments for Crebilly were made. James Kane was the first tenant noted for property # 7. He rented 33 acres from Henry H Hamilton O'Hara.
What I didn't realize when I read that second report was that images for the property taxations were available online. Because UHF referenced 'Valuation Revision Books' I googled it. Imagine my surprise and excitement to find that images were available and that I could look up the tenancy legacy there. :)
The first tax revision for property # 7 was done in 1876. James' name is still listed as the leasee, although he was deceased for 7 years already. The reason for the revision was the name change for the owner of property. Instead of
Henry H. H. O'Hara, who died in 1875, Robert Wardlaw is named as owner. He was O'Hara's brother in law, married to O'Hara's only sister,
Mary Jane.

UHF reports that the property was under James' name from 1864 to 1882, and under 'Reps of James Kane".
The second tax revision was for the time period of 1880-1889. In the image we can see that James' name is crossed out as well as the word rep and that Bernard's name is written in place. Bernard is James' son, who was given along with his brother James (named as John in the will) the property, after his father's death. The property changes to Bernard's name in 1886.

Note the 86 at end of row...this denotes the year. |

Interesting enough, the property changes over to James, Bernard's brother a few years later. Not sure why the will named James (Jr.) as John. Perhaps, it was part of his name or....just a mistake. Nevertheless, James takes over the property. However, in the UHF report, it has Bernard's name listed from 1886-1912.

James Jr is now listed as tenant for property. |
For 1912, UHF reports that John Kane is responsible for property #7. We know that James (Jr) died in 1911, and assume that Bernard is also deceased. From the Tax Valuation Revisions, looking at the image for Crebilly, it is actually John Laverty's name that is listed. John Laverty married Minnie (Mary Anne) Kane, James' (Jr) daughter. The Lavertys were neighbors of the O'Kanes. John's father's name was John and the family moved to property # 13 in 1879.

John Laverty, Valuation Revision Books , 1864-1879. |
The last Tax Valuation Revisions available online are for 1915-1929. John Laverty's name was still there. An Estate notice in 1962 seemed to indicate that John Laverty had still been at that property.

So we know that from 1862 to at least 1962, for a 100 years, property #7 belonged to the O'Kane/Laverty family.
