This is a great blog Cathy! Thanks to everyone who checks us out. Here's the thing, (something I learned from Cathy) even if you suspect our families are connected, go on your hunches. Just because you don't seem to recognize anyone in our pictures, or names, please consider checking out our blog.
A good bit of advice I received from someone is to get a map and familiarize yourself with the area of your research. People get married and move, making it difficult to do your genealogy, but there are all sorts of reasons why no one should give up.... chances are, you're closer than you think to getting some good info, because someone out there is trying to connect with you to explore his or her family roots as well. So without at least asking another Kane, you may miss what you need.
The Ulster Foundation couldn't give me too much, but guess what? I am looking for Kane, Keane and the Foundation stated that Andrew Cain is most likely a member of my family. People also on the census use different names such as Minnie used for Mary and Jenny or Janie for Jane and by the way, we connected with Jane O'Kane's family here in the states. Thank you Mary Bivens for your picture contribution which we will be posting including the Laverty family and that is the family Mary (Minnie) married into.
Even if your curious, let's see if its a match. My late great aunt Elaine stated that James O'Kane passed away in a riot between the Protestants and the Catholics. There is a will made in 1872 for a James O'Kane of Crebilly but there is no mention of his son James, but James may have been John, and my great great grandmother Annie may have been Rose. There is a mention of a Martha and a Jane in the will. Martha O'Kane is of great interest because the birth record for Stephen records her as a witness at his birth. Everyone was named after someone, so it's possible you're looking relatives. And of course James's grandchild was Jane who came to the U.S. She may have been named after his daughter, her aunt who is mentioned in the will. Because there is no cause of death recorded for the death of James O'Kane in 1872, I cannot say if this is truly my great great great grandfather.
